Well, after John and I got married on the best day of my life, I’ve been going 100 MPH non-stop since! My parents gifted us the house in Kotzebue. We are still moving them out and us in. I’m just so happy it’s summer time and that I don’t have to do all this in the winter.
I also flew down to Dallas/Ft. Worth with my two awesomely behaved children and my 2 year old niece, who is somewhat of a handful but for the most part she was pretty well behaved. The kids loved Texas and are already asking to go back. I rented a nice truck and drove from DFW to Killeen, and then drove back to DFW with my two kids and spent the night and left the next day on our adventure home. We flew all day and spent the night in Anchorage and came home the next morning. I was so happy to be home!
My chicks are doing well and my hens are still making tons of eggs. I’ll post another post later when I line up some pictures of the hatch I had last month from my home made incubator.
I bought 15 black copper Maran eggs on eBay and they are in my home made incubator. I’m so excited! They are on day 10 today and I can see little baby chicks inside the light colored eggs. The darker eggs are a lot harder to see through when I candle them.
My baby niece Rea knows that we have real live chickens. She baaaaq baaaaq’s all over the house and if you ask her “what does a chicken do?” she dances around the room with her hands under her armpits and baaaq baaaaaq’s.
One day I was bringing eggs in to my mom’s house and she was sitting in her high chair demanding breakfast, she wanted eggs! The little girl is spoiled by my mom she is a short order cook that makes whatever she demands. Usually its just eggs and by eggs she means scrambled eggs and if she demands eggs and bread its an egg sandwich. I brought the eggs in and she made the best proclamation in her only 2 years of her life “PRETTY EGGS AUNTIE!!” and pointed at my eggs.
Even a 2 year old knows that my eggs are pretty! 🙂
I’ve been just a little busy in the last couple of months. John and I are getting married in less than 2 weeks, on May 11th so I’ve had more than my hands full!
My chickens aren’t up to anything but what they are good for, making eggs, eating scraps and pooping lots! I have TONS of chicken crap if you want some, go get it. Otherwise its going to the tundra, back to the earth. 🙂
I’ll catch you up on a couple quick posts before it gets really crazy in the next week. After May 11th, I’ll be Saima Chase! 🙂
I like how chickens look at everything with one eye. It’s cute and they cock their heads to the side like a curious puppy.
Sorry for not posting much lately. My chickens and I haven’t been up to too much. I guess spring is coming, the days are defiantly longer and brighter but we are still cold here in Kotzebue.
Hopefully soon we will start to thaw out and melt and I can get more interesting posts up, and photos.
Until next time, baaagaaaq!
I am so proud of my husband-to-be. He is in a movie. A big movie, Big Miracle. Here is the link to the website, you can find him under Cast and Crew, his name is John Chase and he plays “Roy” the Inupiaq whaling capt.
I hope you go and see the movie, it will be a good movie.
I am proud. 🙂
I was looking at my stat’s on my blog and the number one search engine resulting in people finding my blog is:
yeah. nudist! that’s crazy! I mentioned ONE comment on nudist and that is the NUMBER ONE reason people are looking at my blog. Maybe someone can write a blog about nudists so that I don’t have to worry about people being disappointed when they get to my blog and it has nothing to do with being a nudist.
The only reason my dad used to tease me and say “send all your friends over (for Halloween) I’m dressing up as a nudist this year!” was because he had polio when he was a boy and it affected his leg, his ability to jump and walk, and sometimes to walk at all. This is why he did not like Halloween, we have a big house and it was hard for him to get up and walk to the door every time a kid knocked on the door for candy. That’s it, no nudity going on in my house, just a joke my dad used to say to get us to tell our friends not to come over cause his leg was bum and he couldn’t spend the entire night walking back and forth to hand out candy…. sorry for disappointing all you fans of nudity or nudists. 😀
It’s cooooooold here in Kotzebue. It’s been below 20 F for at least 2 weeks. My chickens are happy and warm though.
Here they are scratching the floor for corn.
My little white Banty fluffing up to warm up. She still lays an egg a day even though it’s so cold.
My oh so frozen window. I carved a big smiley face in it afterward, so all the kids passing by would see the red light shining through.
Stay warm, like my chickens!!
My most loveliest, handsomest, awesomest fiancé got me a new iPhone for Christmas! So now you will enjoy the post I wanted to write a couple weeks ago about my blown quail and seagull egg ornaments.
I’m on my phone now and I apologize for not knowing the WordPress app well. I think this added all the photo’s I just took.
You’ll have to just match my description to the photo while reading it. 🙂
One photo is of my seagull egg ornament. I blew out this egg myself a couple of years ago and it was sitting on top my knife magnet waiting to be used. (I think it’s the bottom picture)
Another photo is of the tiny quail egg ornament. I got these eggs from eBay. I think I paid 75 cents an egg plus shipping and handling. They are so cute!
I also made earrings out of the quail eggs. One set for me and two for my two sisters. I made two extra sets and gave them to the first two friends who showed up at my door. It was fun posting on Facebook, the first two people to come to my door will get a set of quail egg earrings. 🙂
